MOTOR VEHICLE REGULATIONS IN ETHIOPIA

vspace=5Each country has different rules and regulations when it comes to the importation of motor vehicles. If you're hoping to take your vehicle with you when you relocate to Ethiopia, familiarize yourself with these regulations so that you can be prepared:
  • All vehicles imported into Ethiopia are subject to high taxes and duties
  • Vehicles must be shipped with original Bill of Lading when entering Customs - Bill of Lading must show vehicle chassis number, engine number, cubic capacity, year of manufacture, brand, make and model
  • Vehicles with a cubic capacity of 1,500 cc or less will be subject to an import tax of up to 70 percent of the vehicle's value as declared by Customs; vehicles with a cubic capacity of over 1,500 cc will be subject to an import tax of up to 96 percent of the vehicle's declared value
  • All vehicles being imported must be accompanied by the original certificate of title, vehicle registration and purchase invoice or receipt
  • Customer must also show a valid driver's license and international insurance policy
