Have you ever wondered how the new F30 BMW 3 Series evolved from the previous generation E90? A Youtube video showcases the two vehicles side-by-side and compare the dimensions of the two 3 Series generations.

The sixth generation of the 3 Series has grown moderately in size compared to its predecessor, with its wide track (front + 37 mm/1.46 in., rear + 47 mm/1.85 in.) particularly prominent, and the car’s length (+ 93 mm/3.66 in.) and wheelbase (+ 50 mm/1.96 in.) also accentuates its sporting allure. The car’s larger dimensions ensure rear passengers are welcomed by 0.71 in. /18 mm of extra legroom inside the doors as they climb aboard. Behind the fully contoured front seats, 0.6 in / 15 mm of additional knee room and 0.31in. / 8 mm of extra headroom further enhance the passengers’ comfort on the road. Despite the large dimension, the F30 3 Series is around 90 lbs lighter than the E90 platform. Let’s have a look.

It's a 1:8 scale Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 built by Robert Gülpen Engineering. First shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, it's about to make three entries into the Guinness Book of Records: the most expensive and most precious model car in the world, the most secure showcase - a bulletproof cabinet - and the most precious Lamborghini logo ever built.

So, beyond three spurious records and some fancy glass, what d'you get?

The body, doors and bonnet (all of which open) are made from carbon that's got a 1/1000mm-thin thread of gold wrapped around the fibers.

The wheels (which turn) are made from a mix of gold and platinum, as is the interior. And the front seats are embellished with 1400 pieces of precious stones. The headlight LEDs are made from clear diamonds and the rear lights are built using coloured precious stones.

The, umm, lucky buyer also gets some masonry brickwork, a bit of paper, an old shard of metal and a big badge. More specifically, a piece of a wall stone from the Lamborghini building in Italy, the first design drawing of the Lamborghini Aventador car and engine, a bit of the prototype engine and a Lambo badge as big as the model itself made entirely of precious stones.

Now the interesting bit. The reckoning. It'll be sold at auction, but bidding begins at $5 million, or £3,199,695. Or 13 actual Lamborghini Aventadors. The hammer drops this month and it'll be up for grabs from four different houses in New York, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Beijing.

Mercifully, 500,000 Euros goes to charity, and if you find yourself stuck for cash after buying it, you boil it down and sell the materials, themselves worth 2 million Euros.

Anyone thinking Sebastian Vettel would cruise for rest of the season, having wrapped up his second world title, was proved sadly mistaken in Korea on Sunday. It was, in fact, quite the opposite. Freed of any need to play the numbers game, Vettel crushed his opposition, despite McLaren having been expected to challenge hard for the win. Red Bull’s main concern turned out to be getting the German to slow down, as they looked to ensure victory and bring home their second constructors’ championship on the trot.

Behind Vettel, the first dry Korean Grand Prix provided some gripping racing, a resurgent Lewis Hamilton’s battle with Mark Webber in particular keeping fans on the edge of their seats. We review Sunday at Yeongam team by team…

What could one say of Vettel’s race? It was perfect, as he grabbed the lead by the fourth corner on the opening lap and comfortably held on to it 12s ahead of the fierce scrap for second behind him. Webber got past Hamilton once, on the 49th lap, but was immediately repassed and couldn’t quite get back at Hamilton. Their 1-3 result was, however, sufficient to give the team their second consecutive constructors’ world championship, to go with the drivers’ title Vettel secured in Japan. It was quite a week for the men and women from Milton Keynes.

McLaren

McLaren started their 700th Grand Prix with great hopes, but Hamilton lost a place to Vettel on the opening lap as Button fell from third to sixth. Thereafter both cars were troubled by serious understeer. Hamilton’s car was later found to have debris in its front wing, but he drove superbly to fend off Webber throughout. Button recovered to fourth, but couldn’t quite get close enough to challenge Webber.

Ferrari struggled in the early going as the 150° Italias understeered on the super-soft rubber, and Massa was able to contain Alonso for a long time until the Spaniard made a longer second stint and vaulted ahead at their second stops. After that, on the soft tyres he really got the hammer down and forced his way into contention for the second place battle after a great performance.

It was Toro Rosso’s turn to star this weekend, and Alguersuari drove a super race to keep in points contention throughout and to hammer by Rosberg right at the end. Buemi had a brush with Kobayashi early on, but fought back to deprive Di Resta of ninth at the end. The healthy haul of eight points puts the team within three of Sauber for seventh overall.

Michael Schumacher, Retired lap 17, accident

Rosberg ran strongly ahead of Button and the Ferraris at different points, but couldn’t hold on to it, and had used up his rubber in the closing stages as Alguersuari swooped by to snatch seventh place. Schumacher was going well and had jumped the Ferraris in the first stops when he was taken out in Turn 3 by the errant Petrov.

Force India didn’t quite have the pace to score better than Di Resta’s single point for 10th. The Scot ran ninth in the closing stages but didn’t have the tyres left at the end to hold off Buemi. Where Di Resta started on a set of used super softs then switched to a new set and then new softs, Sutil started on new softs, ran super softs in his middle stint, then new softs in the last one, and it didn’t quite pay out for him.

Pastor Maldonado, Retired lap 30, engine

Barrichello switched from the initial plan of a three-stop race to two as tyre wear on the soft Pirelli’s was better than expected, but after a great start got him up to 11th, Maldonado’s race was compromised by a drive-through penalty for putting a wheel the wrong side of a bollard. Later, indications of an imminent engine failure prompted retirement.

Senna was in trouble from the start and got mired in the lower midfield from which he could not escape. Petrov was running well and fighting Alonso when they out-braked each other in Turn 3 and the Russian smashed into the back of Schumacher, putting them both out.

Both drivers revelled in the T128’s kindness to its rubber and drove competitive races in the lower midfield as their lap times were respectable in comparison with the more established runners. Kovalainen passed the Saubers on the last lap on merit, as they’d used up their grip, while Trulli would have been with him but for traffic during his final stop which cost him valuable time. Overall, new Lotus’s most encouraging race so far.

Both Saubers lost ground with extra pit stops; Kobayashi needed a new front wing after a brush with Buemi, while Perez wore through a tyre. By the end they had used up their rubber and couldn’t hold off Kovalainen’s Lotus on the final lap.

Glock and D’Ambrosio had their hands full fending off Ricciardo, who got between them but couldn’t do anything about the German who finished eight seconds ahead.

Liuzzi’s race was ruined by a first-corner collision which damaged his front wing, necessitating an extra pit stop, and destroyed the balance of his F111 for the remainder of the race. Ricciardo drove hard to split the Virgins in a gritty run, but the team was later fined 5000 euros for an unsafe release during one of his pit stops.

Early on in the development of the Tesla Model S I got a chance to work on some of the prototyping of the 17" vertical touchscreen console that would run most of the systems we're used to having physical buttons for.

Things like air conditioning knobs, and radio buttons all had to be accounted for and replaced with a virtual equivalent.

We were able to build a functional prototype and test it in the vehicle using Flash and Merapi to interface with the car's systems. This was a fun project for many reasons, not the least of which being we got to work out the Space X facility (Eon Musk's other big venture) in California.

We have heard about a new Lotus Exige for quite some time now, but this time the car has been finally caught testing. Its true this is one of the ugliest camouflage we have ever seen, but if Lotus tried to keep our spy photographers away, they were wrong. The new model will make its world debut in 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show.

The prototype reveal a new nose, inspired by the on from the Evora, while the rear also is completely different and makes the car look much longer. The roofline is also different from the one in the current model.

The mules previously caught testing where all wider so we suspect that the new Exige is slightly wider than the current one.

Under the hood Lotus will place the same engine as in the one used for the Evora: a 3.5 liter V6 producing 280 HP in the normal version and 350 HP in the S version. The prototype also gets bigger brakes, another indication the model will deliver better performance numbers.

is the car maker's newest baby that just so happens to also be its 

smallest and most storage friendly vehicle ever made since 1959.

You've seen Mini Coopers before. These cars are made for Hobbits. They're tiny

and sporty looking. The Rocketman isn't going bigger — it's going smarter and prettier.

On the outside of the car is a body built from carbon fiber, doors that open by sliding forward and then outwards for narrow space, a tailgate compartment that slides out and three light modes to round out the Union Jack logo on the top. Inside is a 3D HUD 

that displays only the most relevant info for the car's condition and a removable third and fourth seat.

The Rocketman is the future of the Cooper. Should it ever get produced, it will be powered by BMW's "newly developed three-cylinder engines, capable of attaining upwards of

75 miles per gallon." Let the small car with the big vroom vroom begin —again.

Hyundai Motor Co. unveiled today its new Avante tuning compact sedan “TUIX Edition” and the refreshed 2014 Avante Coupe. The two models are updates of Hyundai’s fifth-generation Avante MD that has been on the market since 2011. Also called Elantra and Elantra Coupe in some overseas markets including the United States. 

The carmaker said the tuning model edition called the“Avante TUIX” features sporty and unique designs. It has front, rear and side skirts all designed to disperse air flowing under the car so as to improve traction. It dons a stylish waistline molding, new fuel caps and 17-inch tires with two-tone wheels. 

The company added that it has incorporated red-colored brake calipers. “Overall, the turning lends a ‘sporty air’ that is not found in the regular Avante and aims to give the car distinctiveness on the road,” the company’s press release said. Customers can ask for the changes when ordering their new cars or bring in their existing cars to local Hyundai after-sale repair shops for upgrades. 

It said while the model is mainly designed for the domestic market, overseas buyers can request their dealers for similar body upgrades.

 Added costs depend on how many add-ons the buyer wants. Various body kits cost from 750,000 won (US$696) to 850,000 won (US$790) each, while wheels can cost up to an extra 1.1 million won (US$ 1,020). 

The automaker, in addition, released the all-new 2014 Avante Coupe, which has new head lights, rear-combination lamps, improved interior materials, flex steering wheels that allow the driver to pick one of three driving modes, and new OLED displays. The two-door car uses the 2.0 GDi 175 hp engine. 

The updated version starts at 18.3 million won (US$ 17,000) for the “Smart” trim model, and goes up to 20.4 million won (US$ 18,900) for the “Premium” trim.
